A bit of history...

Didcot Film Club has been around for 6 years now, showing a mixture of new independent films and great Hollywood classics on a big screen in the main hall at Cornerstone.
“Many of our members are regular cinema-goers so will have already seen the new blockbusters at Cineworld. We are not here to compete; we’re here to show the films that they don’t,” says the club’s founder, David Rouane.
This philosophy is best illustrated by looking at their ‘Top 5’ best-selling films of the last 6 years.
  1. Argo – Argo won the Oscar for best film that year and yet it had not been screened at Cineworld. DFC scheduled it in the week of the ceremony as the only nominee which had not had a wide distribution and this turned out to be perfect timing.
  2. The Angels’ Share – A small budget British film from the crack team of Ken Loach (director) and Paul Laverty (writer) which also brought us I, Daniel Blake, and yet it did not get a wide general distribution.
  3. Strangers on a Train – Classic Hitchcock. It is surprising how often people have heard of a classic film but never seen it, and so DFC fills those gaps.
  4. High-Rise – A British film based on a cult novel, it was always going to struggle to find a mass audience. DFC put a naked Tom Hiddleston on the publicity and that seemed to do the job.
  5. Hundraåringen som klev ut genom fönstret och försvann (or The 100 year old man who climbed out of a window and disappeared) – A Swedish film that was recommended to the club by one of our members, and they are so pleased that she did. It was a lot of fun.

Constitution

We are a private club (not a registered charity) with a constitution you can download it here.
The club is run on behalf of its members by an elected committee. The last committee election was on 30 January 2013, when the constitution was also adopted.
